OUR MISSION 🌱
Gaia Music Collective is an NYC-based creative community seeking to foster a more connected world through collective music-making. Founded in June of 2021 by Matt Goldstein in a living room in Brooklyn, this project was born out of a desire to create accessible, inclusive, playful spaces for people to explore connection, expression, healing, and release through collaborative song - spaces where folks feel empowered to make music free of judgment or expectation, and to make new friends as our full, beautiful, authentic selves.
We believe that communal music-making is a fundamental human practice, and this project seeks to build spaces for folks to nurture their relationship to music, to themselves, and to one another.
All are welcome in this community. Gaia seeks to foster spaces of belonging for humans of all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, religions, abilities, national origins, languages, and musical experiences. All we ask is that you bring an open mind, a desire to connect, and a willingness to leave judgment of self and others at the door.
SOME OF OUR REGULAR OFFERINGS 🤲
ONE-DAY CHOIRS 💫 Sing in a choir for one session, celebrating song and the connective power of singing in harmony. For each choir, we pick a piece of music to rehearse and sing our hearts out to. This is an opportunity to build community, make new friends, and raise our powerfully diverse voices as one.
CIRCLESINGING ✨ Warm, welcoming spaces for spontaneous singing and harmonizing, led with joy, passion, and kindness by skilled circlesong facilitators. A leader in the center invents parts on the spot and teaches them spontaneously to the circle. Circlesinging is done all over the world in many different forms, and traces back to the earliest forms of human singing.
VOCAL FLOWS 🌊 Take a deeper dive into the waters of collaborative vocal improvisation with an intimate circle of singers. Deepen your relationship to improvisational flow, connect with new friends through musical play, and co-create vocal magic out of thin air.
OPEN MICS 🎤 This open mic is a unique opportunity to play with the audience, not just for them! All art is welcome. Invite the room to sing along, make a beat, or play with you! Let's create together!
FOLK SONG SINGS 🌍 Become part of a one-night ensemble exploring folk songs from all around the world! Bring a song, co-teach it to the group with our gaia facilitator, and explore languages and styles of music from diverse origins!
COLLABORATIVE SONGWRITING CIRCLES ✍️ Songwriters of all experience levels gather to play songwriting games, share caring feedback, and explore collaborative songwriting!
INTERACTIVE SHOWS 🎉 Join us for a night of celebration & song! An evening full of group singing, original music, covers, improvise jams, and more.
POP-UP EVENTS OUTSIDE OF NYC ✈️ As we have continued to grow, we have started popping up in major cities around the U.S. and world! We could be coming to a city near you very soon
